Your Trash: A Mountain of Missed Opportunities

Look around… go on. What do you see? I’m not talking about what’s on your walls, on the ceiling, or in your imagination. I’m speaking about your trash. Yes, your trash!

Have you sorted for recycling? Separated cardboard, cans, and food waste for composting? I am that person; I have seen the landfills. Here in Florida, it is one of the few mountain-like hills in the area, a testament to just how much we discard. And it’s not just the sheer volume that’s alarming, but also the incredible waste of resources.

So much can be said about how we waste so many usable items. Think about it: that plastic bottle could have been a new container, that cardboard box could have been recycled into fresh paper, and your food scraps could have enriched your garden soil. We’re not just filling up landfills; we’re also throwing away valuable materials that could be repurposed, reducing the need for new production and conserving energy.

Oh, and let’s not forget trashing the “goodies” your grandmother treasures. Beyond the environmental impact, there’s a sentimental and historical loss when we carelessly discard items with meaning and potential. Every item we toss represents a choice. Let’s make choices that are kinder to our planet and more mindful of the resources we have.
